Prep Cook

Opening for residency in Fall 2019, Opal will be a boutique collection of retirement suites on Vancouver’s west side, offering refined amenities and services that are designed with the highest standards in mind. Opal is currently looking to hire multiple prep cooks in full time roles at the residence.

The role:

Working under the leadership & mentorship of a Michelin Restaurant Trained Chef and a Certified Chef de Cuisine.

As the Prep Cook your position is critical towards delivering the promised exceptional dining experience for our residents. 

Reporting directly to the Executive Sous Chef, responsibilities for this role includes preparing a wide variety of items for service including recipes, sauces, proteins, and vegetables.

 

Duties:

  • Prepare ingredients for cooking, including portioning, chopping, and storing food appropriately.

  • Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards, and food preparation checklist.

  • Conduct food quality checks in accordance with the Opal Food Safety Plan and regulatory requirements.

  • Assist with cleaning, sanitation, and organization of kitchen, walk-in cooler, and all storage areas.

  • Ensure all orders are completed in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Perform all opening and closing assignments as instructed.

  • Work in a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends and public holidays

  • Support in daily shipping, receiving, distribution, inventory and control over kitchen supplies.

  • Adhere to work safety and WHMIS Guidelines. Actively promote a safe work environment.

  • Ensure the kitchen is being cleaned to Opal standards on an ongoing basis.

  • Perform other related duties as requested by Executive Sous Chef.

 

Who you are:

  • Two (2) years of kitchen operations preferably in a fast-paced environment and delivering high end Western and/or Cantonese Cuisine. 

  • Experience with baking, pastry making and desserts would be a strong asset. 

  • Possess a Food Safe Level 1 Certificate

  • Experience working in high volume, quality and hospitality establishments.

  • Good written and oral communication skills in English (Cantonese/Mandarin would be an asset)

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
