Executive Director

The Council for Advancement of African Canadians (CAAC), commonly known as Africa Centre, has partnered with TPD in seeking a collaborative and influential Executive Director to join the team in Edmonton, Alberta. The Africa Centre’s vision is to establish a space that serves as the hub of the community and provides an atmosphere which is welcoming, that shows respect for diversity and that supports all members of all interests and abilities. 

Africa Centre's Executive Director will be the face of the organization, build strategic direction, provide leadership to the team and strive to create opportunities for the community. As the Executive Director, you will lead Africa Centre in building relationships with new and existing organizations by attending fundraising events, collaborating on projects and crafting strategies for sustainability.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

  • Fulfilling the duties of the Board of Directors as listed in the bylaws, executing policy and procedure.
  • Overall management of the Centre; recruitment needs, organizing manager and staff meetings, development of staff, performance management, conflict management
  • Acting as the face of Africa Centre; building relationships with other organizations, the community, and government affiliations and promoting community awareness
  • Building big picture ideas and turning them into tactics and strategies for long term execution
  • Managing and reporting financial analytics to various government agencies and contributors
  • Accountable for financial stability and growth of Africa Centre
  • Working with other members of Africa Centre to craft and deliver proposals for funding

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:

  • Master's level of education (or higher) is preferred. Equivalent years of experience will be considered.
  • Relevant social services sector experience is essential. 
  • Knowledge in accounting is an asset.
  • Experience in Project Management and program development is a requirement.
  • Experience with public/not for profit sector preferred.
  • Experience reporting directly to a board is an asset.
  • Experience in grant writing & reporting is essential.
  • Effective communicator; inquisitive, detail oriented, strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge and understanding of the African community and culture is a major asset
  • Strong collaboration skills, must have the ability to build relationships with others both inside and outside the organization
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and a strategic vision to set goals and develop a plan to achieve the goals and tactics for sustainability
  • High attention to detail in regards to reviewing formal reports for different levels of government.
  • Leadership courage, have the ability to handle difficult situations and lead by example
  • Flexibility to work days and evening hours will be required.

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE IN RETURN:

  • Compensation ranges between $80,000 - $100,000 depending on qualification and experience.
