VP Finance

Our client, a high-end Vancouver-based automobile dealership group is seeking a Vice-President, Finance to join their executive leadership team. Working directly with the Principal, VP Finance will develop relationships with all leadership team members and collaborate on company-wide initiatives by providing business and financial performance targets and guidance.

Job Summary

The VP Finance will act as a trusted advisor on all planning and budgeting activities and be a strategic leader during decision-making processes while providing financial guidance to all revenue-generating components of the enterprise.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Drive the company’s financial planning, develop control and evaluate the capital structure, courses of funds maturity dates, interest rates and business costs monthly.
  • In charge of insurance and risk management by analyzing the organization’s liabilities, investments and strategy.
  • Ensure cash flow is appropriate for the organization’s daily operations.
  • Manage and develop the accounting team (office manager, accounting staff etc.), their projects and automate and streamline processes through continuous improvements.
  • Lead and manage vendor relationships and monitor contracts, policies and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Generate all budgeting and forecasting reports including monthly financial statements.
  • Create and establish quarterly and yearly financial KPIs that supports the company’s growth and expansion plan.
  • Identify and implement systems and tools to provide critical financial and operational information to evaluate departments’ performance.
  • Provide analysis and support for vehicle, service and parts pricing decisions.
  • Perform tax planning that ensures compliance with CRA and the company’s policies.
  • Actively investigate, audit and safeguard finances.
  • Review all month-end and year-end closing activities including general ledger accounts, balance sheets accounts and overhead cost allocation.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to develop performance-based compensation plans.
  • Remain current on audit best practices regarding company operations.


Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree in Accounting or Finance with a CPA designation required.
  • Five-plus years’ experience as a VP of Finance or a similar role.
  • Experience in the automotive industry is an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate law and risk management practices.
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.
  • Solid understanding of accounting theories, principles and practices.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Hands-on experience with an ERP system (Reynolds financial management software is an asset).
  • Ability to strategize and solve complex problems with critical thinking.
  • Strong leadership skills 
  • Extensive experience working with external auditors, internal controls and compliance-related issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and across all functional areas.
