Accounting Supervisor

Our client, a highly established and growing international company in the food manufacturing and distribution industry, has a rare opening for an Accounting Supervisor to join their dynamic team.

The Accounting Supervisor, reporting to the Director of Finance, will oversee the company's accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, identify process improvements and support the improvement of our AP/AR systems infrastructure.



  • Manage all finance and accounting operations, including Billing, A/R and A/P
  • Analysis of general ledger accounts, reconciling, reviewing, entering journal entries and accruals, analyzing and reporting on variances
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly balance sheet account reconciliations and account analysis, including recommendation to reconcile.
  • Directs a team to provide timely and accurate processing, disbursement of vendor payments, discrepancy resolution and / or vendor account reconciliations.
  • Works closely with the various finance groups and other stakeholders to ensure that specific Accounts Payables activities are appropriately accounted for within the financials.
  • Interacts on a regular basis with upper management, internal/external customers as well as vendor partners to implement solutions that meet the company's goals both financially and operationally.
  • Responsible for the creation and reporting of monthly metrics/analytics intended to measure output and capacity of the team.
  • Fosters an environment of Team Building and employs continuous process improvement principles to optimize, for example invoice processing, invoice discrepancy resolution and vendor payments.
  • Review month-end closing checklist to ensure all month-end closing activates are complete, accrual entries are accurately reflected in both the balance sheet and financial statements and assigned expense accounts are reflected properly
  • Responsible for ensuring all General Ledger account reconciliations are completed and or reviewed for completeness and balanced to sub-ledgers on a period basis
  • Act as a representative for the A/P & A/R department on various special projects to achieve a successful outcome to improve processes and increase accuracy
  • Make hiring and other employment-related decisions, evaluate staff performance and provide regular feedback to ensure the best staffing levels are achieved for the department
  • Set objectives for the accounts receivable team that align with the accounting department’s goals
  • Collects accounts by contacting customers; investigating circumstances of non-payment; negotiating and resolving conflicts; expediting payment.
  • Supports financial planning by forecasting cash.
  • Updates receivables by coordinating and monitoring daily sales order processing and bank remittance transactions.
  • Maintains financial security by adhering to internal accounting controls.
  • Maintains accounting ledgers by posting monthly account transactions.



  • Diploma in Business or Accounting required
  • 5+ years of supervisory/team leadership experience in a high-volume accounting role is required
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting practices required
  • Experience with AP/AR functionality of ERP systems – preferably with MS Navision
  • Experience dealing with system issues, reporting, and working with IT to test fixes
  • Advanced Excel experience with pivots and vlook-up required
  • Excellent time management and analytical skills
  • Highly deadline-driven with the supervision of multiple on-going projects and tasks
  • Complex problem solving and decision-making requirements with respect to short & long term issues and direction
  • Co-ordination with departments and finance regarding financial results
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organization skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
